Keswick at last

81 miles today and Bill's knee held up fantastically so we are delighted. Thank heavens for drugs and his grim determination to carry on!

Both a bit tired but once the rain stopped by 4 we had fantastic views of the mountains and passes on the way down from the high fells.

We had some fantastic carrot cake today and I counted at least 10 flat hedgehogs, must be a hedgehog thing I guess. Off to get bikes serviced first thing then Lancaster is next stop.

No cakes today and on reflection I am rather glad to see the back of Hurricane Irene.

I hope next time I cycle such a beautiful route I can see more than 50 yards. A very hard day for all sorts of reasons not least of all was cycling for so long into driving rain and strong headwinds. Any way now eating a meat pasta dish for four or a very hungry JOGLER!

One high point was a red deer that I startled on the north shore of loch lochy.

Time for more food. Good night and thanks for your interest.

Where are they now?

Where they are, is still not set off for Scotland yet! The van has at last arrived,
only 17 hours late, I hasten to add not the fault of the local van hire in Cornwall,
They have delivered a van within an hour of hearing that it was Hired??????!!!!!!
As to A1 van hire, we will deal with them on our return.

Nice breakfast

One small advantage of not having a full fry at Knutsford station at 8am this morning is that I was able to eat our lovely eggs instead. Looks like we might have to do LEJOG rather than the JOGLE!
Happy days

Waiting for the van - don't use A1 van hire!

Sent from phone with keys too small for my fat fingers so please forgive smelling. Happy days.

Must be real, Bike has gone to menders for full service.

I would like to say I had given the bike such a beating that it needs major overhaul but I regret I think that due to standing still too long in the garage it has grown old.

Anyway can't wait to get to Lands End

John O'Groats to Lands End.

Where to start? (apart from the obvious) Tim first mentioned this adventure in late January at a family gathering in Cornwall.
His original plan was to go alone (no mates) so I asked if he would like some company, me, (also no mates).
So there we are, or will be, on the 10th September 2011, probably standing in the pouring rain in a gale force wind, at the starting post in John O'Groats, wondering what the bloody hell we are about to do!

What we are doing is, trying to raise money charity, "The Firefighters Charity" and "The Pearl of Africa Foundation"
more information about them can be found on our JustGiving pages, look for Bill Light and Tim Light in the "Sponsor a Friend" section, and while you are looking there, please feel free to do just that?
We are taking a longer route than most do, 1030 miles, via Mull and Arran, just to use a few more ferries.
Staying at Fire Stations almost every night, I will hopefully find time to write each days events, news and updates on sore bums and aching legs, for you all to laugh at!

There is a list of our route maps, (2nd post) which will open each days ride in Google maps. Street view will let you see some of the views we will see, have fun using it, I did.

So until the ride starts that will be all.

The Fireman & The Ferryman go for a ride!
